9 x 10 x 8 in.

Some of my smaller sculptures are based on abstractions of letters of the alphabet. The MOUND series started with B forms, but the sections can also be seen as soft As. The forms of this piece also suggest mountains, not a surprise since for 12 years I taught @ Appalachian State University in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

All of the clay components are slab-constructed terracotta, finished in low-fire oxidation. Each piece is fired at least twice. The unique surfaces are generated by means of layering: of multiple glazes or glazes applied over liquid clay slips. Other materials are noted where used. All dimensions are height x width x depth.
